All about Moi!
Howdy everyone!
If you didn’t already realize, but my name is Marissa Glendinning, you can call me Rissa for short. Currently I am an education student at the University of British Columbia in the one year elementary program. I graduated from UBC in 2006 with a bachelor degree in arts where I majored in geography. This year has been challenging so far, however it has also been exciting and enjoyable. My practicum classroom is grade 6 at Janice Churchill elementary school in Surrey. I live in Surrey so its great to be able to work in my community. I taught 2 lessons to my class in November and I taught 10 math lessons in January on our 2 week short practicum. It was nervewracking at first, but I became comfortable fairly fast. At the end of the 2 weeks I didn’t want to leave! It was really fun and I learned alot from ‘my kids’ and from my school advisor. Right now I am getting prepared for my long practicum which starts at the end of March and I can’t wait!
Interests: I of course am interested in the lives of children. I find them fascinating, fun and full of surprises! I have always wanted to work with children and I think teaching provides us with a great opportunity to make a difference in their lives. We not only teach them how to write, read and do arithmetic, we teach them values and morals as we guide them in becoming decent human beings.
I am an avid outdoor enthusiast. I love skiing and snowboarding in the winter and hiking, camping, kayaking, rollerblading in the summer. My parents have always taught me to appreciate nature and everyday I make sure I appreciate at least one aspect of it that surrounds me.
This is an Emily Carr painting of the Sitka forest. She captures the beauty of BC in virtually all of her painting.
This is another Emily Carr painting of the Straight of Georgia. Her paintings reflect her appreciation for nature and that is why I appreciate her paintings so much.
This is a picture of me in art class. A few of us thought it was appropriate to frame ouselves for a photo.

Blog looks well put together. Good job!
